She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts with a concentration in Printmaking. Her practice is grounded in a concept or emotion she wants to captivate through forms, expressing this idea through the intentional use of materials. The materials she uses tend to hold a sense of duality in their physical qualities. Lily continually attempts to soften and add a feminine aspect to typically more masculine material, such as steel. She draws inspiration from collecting moments, words, theories, and memories to distill the physical to describe the intangible through her work. Lily seeks to create something that makes one think, feel, and act, speaking to the things we will never be able to express fully, but the merit in trying. When Lily is not making art or reading theory, she loves to explore the city she works in, drink chia lattes, bake, and read. This piece deals with concepts of fragility and tip-towing. Fragility comes from the material used, hand-pulled paper, which is usually delicate and light in form. When thinking about fragile things, intentionality comes to mind. There is an intentionality in the way something fragile is handled and the way it is packaged. This idea of intentionality also comes to play with the idea of tiptoeing. This movement is always carefully calculated; whether that is a teenager sneaking in late or a new parent trying not to wake a sleeping baby, there is mindfulness to where one steps and how they step. The experienced tip-toer knows what creeks to avoid and the steps on the stairs to skip; the inexperienced tiptoer might get caught. These two ideas lead to the installation evoking emotions that align with notions of delicacy, methodical moments such as tiptoeing, and this idea of extra care that is necessary when something is fragile.
